Donald John Roberts is the John H. and Irene S. Scully Professor of Economics, Strategic Management, and International Business at the Stanford Graduate School of Business. Born in Winnipeg in 1945, Roberts received his education at the Universities of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Minnesota. Roberts is the author or co-author of over 70 scholarly articles, business cases, and several influential books. His notable works include “Economics, Organization and Management,” the first text applying modern incentive and contracting theories to managerial problems, and “The Modern Firm: Organizational Design for Performance and Growth,” which was named the best business book of the year by The Economist.

Throughout his career, Roberts has held visiting research appointments at prestigious institutions such as the Center for Operations Research and Econometrics in Belgium, the Institute for Advanced Study in Jerusalem, and the Sloan School of Management at MIT.
